Cleveland Cavaliers Unveil New Nike Uniforms
The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially entered the next era of NBA uniforms.
The team officially revealed two of their new uniforms via a Twitter video on Monday.
The uniforms still incorporate the classic Cavalier colors of wine and gold, now with more of an emphasis on navy blue accents. The font used on the uniforms is a more aggressive typeface than that of the previous uniforms. This gives them a bolder and more unique look.
The Cavaliers elected to dramatically alter their uniforms as the NBA’s official outfitter changes from Adidas to Nike. The apparel company’s famous “Swoosh” logo is seen on the upper left of both new uniforms.
The uniforms also feature the famous “Wingfoot” logo of tire company Goodyear. This makes the Cavaliers one of the NBA’s first teams to feature advertisements on their jerseys. Goodyear has a strong connection to the state of Ohio. The company was founded in Akron over 100 years ago, and to this day, remains based in the city.
While the video is otherwise standard fare for the unveiling of a new uniform, it does feature a certain player quite often. Kyrie Irving is shown in the video celebrating multiple times and his jersey is shown alongside LeBron James’ and Kevin Love’s. Irving has dominated the latter part of the Cavs’ offseason with reports that he will be traded before next season.
According to Nike, each NBA team will be able to wear four different uniforms next season. Their choices will begin with the “association” and “icon” edition. The “association” edition is a white uniform traditionally worn by the home team. The “icon” edition is a uniform in a team color. The Cavs have shown both options so far, but two more have yet to be revealed.
These uniforms are a drastic change from the ones Cavs fans may be used to but if the team is successful while they wear them they’ll be favorites in no time.
