The Minnesota Timberwolves want to have a Big Three of Irving, Jimmy Butler and Karl Anthony-Towns. By necessity, that leaves Andrew Wiggins, the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, as the odd man out. Selected by the Cavs in the draft and traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love, Wiggins may find himself traded to the Cavs for Irving.

Wiggins is an uber-athletic wing that excels in transition, getting to the rim in the halfcourt and making shots in the clutch. He’s not an analytics-friendly player because he likes to take a lot of midrange shots, even if contested. However, his shot selection and shooting percentages from midrange is similar to LeBron James during his first stint in Cleveland. That doesn’t mean they’re good but that they’re improvable.

From three, Wiggins may be shooting 32.9 percent for his career but he’s shooting 39.6 percent on corner threes. He shot 35.6 percent on all threes and 40.9 percent on catch-and-shoot threes last season.

Defensively, Wiggins needs to improve as well as he has the physical tools to be a plus defender. He’ll need to improve his film study, technique and effort but he can.

An underrated aspect of this potential trade is that Wiggins is a young and athletic wing who can take over the Cavs after being mentored by James.
