Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 takeaways from a thrilling Las Vegas Summer League
Could Pointer, Prather, or Williams be the Cavs two-way contract options
Brandon Paul, who was the Cavaliers’ best summer league player, was already signed by the Spurs, but besides him, others did stand out. Dom Pointer, Casey Prather, and T.J. Williams were all players that could be a good two-way contract signing for the Cavaliers.
The two-way contract is this, according to NBA.com:
"The partnership between the NBA and NBA Gatorade League will take a big step in its evolution this year with the introduction of two-way contracts. NBA rosters will grow from 15 spots to 17 thanks to the addition of a pair of “two-way players” that can spend up to 45 days on an NBA roster."
The Cavaliers, who still have their two two-way contracts remaining, could find them useful for a couple of these summer league guys.
Williams scored 21 points on 6-of-19 shooting in the Cavs last game against the Raptors. Williams, who forces up quite a bit of shots, went just 2-for-16 against the Lakers. His inefficiency has also been an issue, but he could be a long-term answer at backup point guard.
Pointer and Prather are both 6-foor-6 forwards that could be the answer to the bench once both Richard Jefferson and James Jones retire. These three generally played well and showed their skill. The two-way contract was built for players like them.
