Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 takeaways from a thrilling Las Vegas Summer League
Kay Felder is not NBA-ready
Kay Felder proved this summer league that he is still not NBA-ready.
The 5-foot-9 point guard originally from Detroit who played his college ball in Oakland made 42 appearances for the Cavaliers last season. In those appearances, he averaged 4.0 points per game. Felder, who shot sub-40% from the field last season, had the same issue in the summer league.

With his small frame, Felder has trouble with efficiency. As he continues to try to break into the NBA, he must change this. In their first game, a game which they won by 29, Felder went just 2-for-11. In their next game, Felder led the team with 16 points but was again poor from the field, going just 5-for-18. Over the next two games, Felder went 15-for-40 before sitting out the Cavs last game against the Raptors.
Felder, the late second round pick, needs to model his game after Isaiah Thomas, who was the 60th pick in 2011 NBA draft. Thomas was the NBA’s second-leading fourth quarter scorer last season. In general, Thomas scored 28.9 points per game last season which is incredible for a player of his size.
Felder has the skill to be a solid point guard in this league, but he must first take care of business in the summer league. Seeing an inefficient Felder during the summer league is not a promising site as the new season is just a couple months away.
