OAKLAND, CA - MARCH 16: Jeff Green

The Cleveland Cavaliers have added Jose Calderon and Jeff Green to the team which helps bolster the talent on their roster that much more. After

After signing Kyle Korver to a three-year $22 million dollar deal, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed Jose Calderon to a one- year 2.3 million dollar deal and then Jeff Green to the same amount of years and the same amount of money.

Jeff Green after making $15 million last year will make $2.3 million guaranteed this year. Jeff Green had his worst season as a pro when it came to scoring the basketball averaging 9.2 points a game. For his career, he averages 13.5 points a game which is good coming off the bench. Calderon averages 9.6 points a game for his career but came off a couple seasons averaging 3 points a game so his game has seen a decline and Jeff Green has also.

These players can add veteran leadership and scoring to the team. The teams they played for did not make noise in the playoffs with the Hawks which were Jose Calderon’s team and the Orlando Magic didn’t make the playoffs and finished 13th in the standings in the Eastern Conference. When you play for one of the best teams in the league that means your role is more important wherever you are on the depth chart.

More from King James Gospel

The Cavaliers bench averaged 30.2 points a game last year in the playoffs and LeBron James averaged 28.6 points a game in the playoffs. The Warriors bench averaged 38.1 points in the playoffs and Kevin Durant, the team’s finals MVP, averaged 28.5 points a game. The Cavaliers have to get more help on the bench if they want to be able to beat the Warriors.

Jeff Green was part of the uprising in OKC when they moved from Seattle in 2008. He averaged 16.5 points a game that season in the 2008-09 season which is his second-highest point total of his career in just his second season. That talent will be what the Cavaliers are adding to their team. The Cavaliers will be adding a possible fourth option to their team. Green is also versatile with his ability to put the ball on the floor and play small forward and power forward. In this day and age of the NBA it is almost necessary to have a stretch four on the team and with Green’s 33 percent from the three-point line for his career he can be another weapon on the floor in terms of three-point shooting.

Green’s big role will be spelling LeBron James and Kevin Love with his ability to play the three and the four. James has played 50,000 minutes for his career which he is the youngest to do. He has put a lot of miles on his body so having Green gives the Cavaliers a player that can re-create his size, strength and scoring ability at the small forward position.

Calderon will be a player that can spell Kyrie Irving because you can trust him with the ball. He only has 1.6 turnovers per game for his career and in his 24 playoffs games played he has averaged 9.8 points a game and the backup point guard last season for the Cavaliers which was Deron Williams averaged 4.3 points a game so that will be a big upgrade for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers are still hoping to get Carmelo Anthony but the Houston Rockets are big contenders to acquire him and seem to be beating the Cavaliers. While these are not the big fishes that the Cavaliers want they are solid veteran pickups to help them during the season.
