Promise made, Promise Kept

I like reading the Lee Jenkins piece on LeBron, it helps with reading the tea leaves. This quote, in particular, makes for marvelous reading, “When I left Cleveland, I was on a mission. I was seeking championships, and we won two. But Miami already knew that feeling. Our city hasn’t had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question. But what’s most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio.”

Let’s highlight a crucial part of this statement for a minute, one trophy. LeBron delivered that one trophy to Northeast Ohio, in other words, he made good on his promise. He doesn’t owe the Cavaliers or its fan base anything else.

LeBron delivered to the Cavs something the team has never before experienced, a championship. Cleveland has been to three straight finals and chances are four by the time LeBron exits after next season. Can anyone say that LeBron reneged on his promise? What can a fan base that experienced something foreign to them possible say to LeBron?

I have an answer, how about “thank you”.
