Pump the brakes on the “Lebron James is leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018 narrative”

As basketball fans, we are so accustomed to looking in the future. We quote on quote “trust the process” and are always looking in advance. How about for once we just sit back and enjoy greatness. After a disappointing finish in the 2017 NBA Finals, it’s important to remember that Lebron James has been to seven consecutive finals.

Although his 3-4 finals record during this time span is less than ideal, Lebron James has been dominating the basketball world for the past fourteen NBA seasons.

I agree, at this point in time, it’s hard to remain optimistic about the Cleveland Cavaliers. Had the 2016 NBA champs lost to the Warriors in six or seven games I think there would be a different aura surrounding the franchise. The recent departure of General Manager David Griffin has also sent some fans into a frenzy.

The one thing we must remember is that we have the best player in the world. A coaching change, a general manager change or even an ownership change doesn’t change the fact that Lebron is light years ahead of other players in the league. Well, maybe not light years ahead.

As Lebron grows older and with the emergence of stars like Kevin Durant, Kawahi Leonard, and Steph Curry the gap in talent isn’t as big as it once was. Dr. Seuss said it best: “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory”.

Instead of speculating the future of Lebron James and what he might choose to do in the summer of 2018, let’s sit back and enjoy the 2017-2018 NBA season first. The fourth meeting of the Warriors-Cavs saga seems almost inevitable at this point. With the Cavs in the process of retooling, you would have to think that Lebron would like to get his own revenge on the currently stacked defending champions.
