Pick No. 12: Lauri Markkanen

Markkanen is the perfect fit in Detroit. The Pistons, who might end up buying into Andre Drummond, would make him much more useful by adding a sharpshooting big like Markkanen. The lengthy big from Arizona has a tremendous shooting gift.

At Zona, he averaged 2.4 threes per game and shot the deep ball over 42%. For a 7-footer, that is incredible. Imagine having your frontcourt bigs being Markkanen and Drummond. While it might have helped Markkanen to play another collegiate year, being a lottery pick is still pretty solid.

If he can learn to attack and defend, Markkanen could easily have one of the highest ceilings in this draft class. To be honest, Markkanen’s skill set could easily make him a top 10 pick. The stretch four or even stretch five is a highly coveted position in the modern-day NBA.

At 12, the Pistons could get a steal with Markkanen. Develop him correctly, and Lauri’s game could mimic that of legend Dirk Nowitzki.
