Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert will meet with general manager David Griffin in the next few days.

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals last night as the Golden State Warriors closed out the series 4-1. Playing against juggernaut that the Warriors assembled could only get harder and as a result, the Cavs will need to be honest with themselves in assessing their team. subsequently, general manager David Griffin (whose contract expires on June 30th) will need to be around for the long haul for the Cavs to stay competitive.

Griffin deserves to be paid for what he has created in Cleveland with limited assets and the work he’s done in the Land make it clear that LeBron James isn’t the general manager of the Cavaliers.

With the 2017 NBA Draft taking place next Thursday, on June 22nd, Griffin will be around to help the Cavs in the draft. While he Cleveland Cavaliers don’t currently have any picks in the draft, it’s possible they could buy a second-round pick like they did last year in taking Kay Felder.

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert talked to cleveland.com, telling Cavs beat writer, Joe Vardon that he plans to meet with Griffin “in the next few days” to determine his future with the franchise.

Gilbert told cleveland.com: “I feel good about our talent, our personnel, coaching staff, everything.”

He also told cleveland.com that the franchise is very strong.

"“I think the franchise is strong, especially in the playoffs,” Gilbert said. “We ran into a very good team. Little breaks here or there are different, different circumstances, we’re right there.“It’s not one of those things where you think you’re not going to be able to compete against these guys. I think we have  a great core and a great future.”"

It’s clear that Gilbert feels comfortable standing pat.

Yet, this offseason shouldn’t be come without any changes as this current roster can be better equipped to compete with the NBA champion Golden State Warriors who were faster and more disciplined.
