The Golden State Warriors are one of the best teams we have ever seen. LeBron James has given credence to that.
With a little more than two minutes remaining in the game, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers led 113-107. The Warriors proceeded to go on an 11-0 run to steal the game and are now only one win away from an NBA championship.
The Cavaliers played a great game. They had some defensive lapses, and a few ill-advised pull up threes, but they played solid basketball for 46 minutes. In order to beat the Warriors, you have to play solid basketball for 48 minutes.
In the last two minutes, Korver missed a good three-point look, Kyrie Irving missed a 2-1 opportunity by over-dribbling and LeBron was stripped on an inbounds play. It all fell apart for Cleveland, only for two measly minutes and it cost them the game and, probably, the series.
LeBron made an observation that I think we all have taken in by this point. James said that the Warriors have “probably the most, most firepower I’ve played in my career.”
I would have to agree. The San Antonio Spurs beat the Miami Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals, and those Spurs looked like one of the most complete basketball teams we have ever seen. They couldn’t beat the 2017 Golden State Warriors.
It now seems silly that anyone ever suggested that last years Warriors team was better than this one because the Warriors won six more games in 2016. No way, anytime you add a four-time scoring champ and MVP like Kevin Durant, you’re always going to be a better team.
The Cavaliers stars played exceptionally well Wednesday night. LeBron closed with 39 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Irving bounced back with a huge game finishing with 38 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists but it still wasn’t enough.
According to ESPN, the Cavaliers were previously 4-0 when both James and Irving score at least 30 points in a playoff game but even their best wasn’t enough.
