5 NBA teams LeBron James would want to own
Sacramento Kings
If LeBron moves to Los Angeles full-time in his retirement, as he likely will as he pursues a Hollywood lifestyle that would either make Joakim Noah smile or cringe, he’ll want a California-based team.
The Los Angeles Lakers are probably going to be owned by the Buss’ forever, Steve Ballmer only recently became the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers and he genuinely seems to love the experience and it’s just hard to see James wanting to own the Golden State Warriors.
There is one team left though and one that has a team name that James would give to an AAU team. The Sacramento Kings.
Vivek Ranadive has only recently become the owner of the Sacramento Kings but they are struggling on the court and with three other powerhouses in the same state, they’re nowhere near as relevant as the other California teams. That’s no disrespect to the fan base in Sacramento, which is great. That’s just to say that in terms of the attention from the national media, most has been focused on DeMarcus Cousins, bad personnel decisions and a desire to get the type of star talent they had in Jason Williams, Chris Webber, Mitch Ritchmond and Mike Bibby.
Cousins was a star but the media speculation about whether he’d be traded was so persistent that with the Kings failing to make a great impact on the court and both former and current players speaking on a dysfunctional culture within the organization, both he and the organization would be better off with a trade.
Ranadive wants to promote basketball in India and with James becoming the owner, he could be sure that would happen. James is a global icon in the basketball world and wherever he wants to promote the game of basketball he can. If he was to build Rome from the dust of decrepitude, it would be amazing for the game of basketball on a local, national and global level.
King James owning the Kings would not be a bad idea.
