Brooklyn Nets

Mikhail Prokhorov is currently the owner of the Brooklyn Nets but after the bumble that brought two ages veterans to the Bronx for a bundle of first-round picks, he shouldn’t be expected to be well-received by fans for much longer. Especially if the Nets struggle to make splash signings in free agency and the players being picked with the draft picks they originally owned are excelling elsewhere.

Prokhorov is already willing to sell 49.0 percent of the Nets but according to SB Nation’s NetsDaily, Prokhorov is “committed to the Nets and will remain the majority owner of the team”. NetsDaily is also reporting that there are already several prospective buyers but there are obstacles that remain, including bidders desires to own a controlling interest in the team and have a stake in the Barclays Center as well.

In November, Prokhorov had this to say about his desire to bring in a minority owner (quote transcribed by NetsDaily):

"“As I’ve said, I’m passionate about owning the Nets and our emerging sports and entertainment businesses, and will continue to look at growth opportunities. My goal in seeking a local minority partner is to further strengthen the team’s New York presence in order to expand upon our business and community relationships.”"

James will want to be the majority and it may turn out that Prokhorov finds a minority owner but gives James controlling interest in the Nets down-the-line. If James was to go the Brooklyn Nets, who courted him in free agency in 2010 and where his friend, Jay-Z, used to be a co-owner, it would be fitting. His insight would change the culture of the Brooklyn Nets and while there may be a major facelift on the roster and in the roster, Nets fans can trust in James.

In addition, as I mentioned before, New York would love for LeBron to be there.
