LeBron James says owning an NBA team is his “next thing”. Here are five teams that may be on James’ mind.

LeBron James has not changed his stance on wanting to own an NBA team, he actually got a little firmer in his confidence in it.

Last year, James mentioned the possibility while appearing on an episode of his Uninterrupted podcast, saying his “dream is to actually own” an NBA team (quote transcribed by cleveland.com‘s Joe Vardon).

Yesterday, James told Ken Berger of The Athletic that he still plans to own an NBA team (quote transcribed by Bleacher Report‘s Timothy Rapp):

"“I will own a team someday,” James told Berger. “That’s my next thing."

With the money from his lifetime contract with Nike, revenue from multiple stock investments, his growing presence in the media industry and his lifetime earnings from his playing career, it’s not hard to see why James is confident in his ability to own a team. His insight into the game, his stature within it and the fact that he’s already thought to be the man making the personnel moves everywhere he goes with his subliminal and sometimes overt directives.

When James mentioned this last year, King James Gospel published a piece on five teams that James wanted to own. We’ll bring that exercise back this year, with a few adjustments.
