Get a look at LeBron James in a new Cleveland Cavaliers jersey.
Jason Lloyd of The Athletic has posted a picture to his Twitter account of LeBron James wearing a brand new Cleveland Cavaliers jersey.
This one is complete with the Goodyear Wingfoot logo, thanks to the Cavs new sponsorship agreement with the Akron-based company, and is actually a Kyrie Irving jersey rather than one of his own.
What’s interesting about the jersey, outside of the Wingfoot logo, is that it has the Miracle of Richfield Hardwood Classics trim with Goodyear’s signature color scheme.
For what it’s worth, I don’t own any jerseys nor do I particularly like the color blue but this jersey is one of the best I’ve seen and I’m excited to see what other special jerseys the team comes up with for next year.
This jersey harkens back to the Akron Wingfoots, founded in 1918 by Goodyear. The Wingfoots, which were a part of the National Basketball League and then the National Industrial Basketball League (or the National Alliance of Basketball Leagues), wore jerseys very similar to the one James has on now.
In an interesting intersection of history, former head coach Larry Brown actually played for the Wingfoots from 1964-1965. Brown, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach, was once expected to be president of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
When the deal was first announced, ESPN’s Darren Rovell put up a picture of Irving himself wearing a jersey with the Wingfoot logo.

However, in his picture, the logo was placed on the front of the jersey while this one shows the logo on the back of it. Looking closely at the picture below, there are simply two logos on each jersey (one on the front and one on the back).
The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to start wearing the Goodyear Wingfoot patch on their jerseys beginning in the 2017-2018 season. The NBA is going to switch to Nike Inc. from Adidas next year as well.
