5. Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins was picked first in the 2014 NBA Draft. Yes I know, he never played one game in a Cavaliers uniform. He was, however, instrumental in the Cavaliers’ championship.

Wiggins showed a lot of signs in his days at Kansas University that he would turn into a special NBA player and even if he didn’t eventually become the centerpiece of the trade for Kevin Love, there was a thought that he could develop into one of the best small forwards in the NBA. Again, who knows if LeBron would have returned without promising young talent on the Cavalier roster?

He had signed to the Cavs even without them trading for Love.

Fortunately, when James returned home Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin was able to trade Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves for their star power forward, making Cleveland an immediate contender.

The deal was beneficial for both teams. The Timberwolves are building around their young core of Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns and Love helped the Cavaliers secure its first championship in franchise history.
