#1: Game 5, 2007: LeBron Takes Over vs. Detroit

Speaking of that career, few moments will ever rival the heroic performance LeBron James put on in Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals.

With the series tied 2-2, the Cavs faced the Pistons in Detroit. The Cavaliers had just come back to tie the series after losing the first two games, both of which were in the Palace. In order to beat a veteran Pistons team on the road and control the rest of the series, a special kind of effort would be required.

LeBron James may have been the only player on the planet capable of providing that effort.

With 2:17 remaining in the 4th quarter, James would make a 3-pointer to bring the Cavs within 1 point of tying the Pistons. For the remainder of the game, James would be directly responsible for every point the Cavaliers scored.

In what is perhaps the greatest individual performance in playoff history, James scored an astonishing 25 consecutive points. These points led the Cavaliers to a 109-107 win in double overtime, and gave them a 3-2 lead in the series.

James finished the game with 48 points, and the Cavs finished the series in game 6 a few nights later. The Cavs would lose that year’s Finals in a sweep to the San Antonio Spurs, but LeBron’s Game 5 showcase was the beginning of his ascension to legendary heights.
