G/F Kyle Korver

2016-17 stats (67 games):

10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.5 steals per game

46.4 FG%, 45.1 percent 3PT%, 90.5 FT%

What he can bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers:

Elite shooting, veteran savvy, former All-Star

Kyle Korver is a player who should be back in the Land and I say that for multiple reasons.

Not only is he playing with a perennial championship contender but he’s teammates with a player who, while leading the NBA champions, does his absolute best to get Korver involved in the game.

In addition, at 36-years-old, Korver will also be signing what should be his last NBA contract depending on the length of the deal.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have his Bird Rights and he’s been such a fit on the team in terms of his personality and his play on the court, they should be willing pay the American Eagle a fitting salary. Especially given how injury-prone Iman Shumpert has been in his career and how injury-prone J.R. Smith has become.

Korver, who is 5th in NBA history with 2,049 made threes in his career, is an elite shooter and those shots don’t even have to be from behind-the-arc. Names like Ray Allen and Richard “Rip” Hamilton pop-up in your mind when you watch Korver run around screens as he tries to get open.

His defense is a liability at times because of his lack of strength and declining lateral agility. However, he’s intelligent, a heady vet that’s played 14 NBA season and has solid size at 6-foot-7 and 212 pounds, all which factor into his ability to be a solid team defender.

Looking at his traditional box numbers in 2016-2017 compared to his career averages, Korver is a steady performer in this league.
