Isolation Plays

The Numbers

8.5 possessions per game (RS – 5.1 possessions per game)

27.4 percent frequency (RS – 20.3 percent frequency)

0.97 PPP (RS – 0.97 PPP)

8.3 points per game (RS – 5.0 points per game)

41.4 percent field goal percentage, 48.3 percent effective field goal percentage

(RS – 43.5 percent field goal percentage, 49.5 percent effective field goal percentage)

17.6 percent free-throw frequency, 5.9 percent and-one frequency

(RS – 12.7 percent free-throw frequency, 3.7 percent and-one frequency)

44.1 percent scoring frequency (RS – 44.6 percent scoring frequency)

2.9 percent turnover frequency (RS – 8.0 percent turnover frequency)

LeBron James has been taking way more shots in isolation than he did in the regular season and, reaching into his bag of scoring tricks, the King hasn’t been ultra-efficient but he has been pretty effective. Looking at the differences between his field goal percentage and his effective field goal percentage, James’ three-point shooting in isolation has been solid. Those are usually the moments when he slows his dribble before he gathers and launches a three. James has been fouled more in the postseason in isolation as well, perhaps an effect of his ability to penetrate the lane. Bron Bron is as springy as ever and it’s shown in his ability to explode into the lane.
