Do the Cleveland Cavaliers take the regular season seriously enough?
Clearly, the defending world champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers, have the firepower and talent to do big things in the playoffs.
But how easy will it be to kick it into gear come April?
Throughout the regular season, every team will experience minor hiccups and rough patches. Yet, the focus for the Cavs seems to be what they’ll do in the playoffs and not how they’re going to get the playoffs; LeBron James returned to Cleveland and the team became the Eastern Conference favorites.
However, as defending champs, the Cavs have a target on their back. Maybe in past years the squad had it easier because they hadn’t won the championship. The focus had been on the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors, the teams that were awarded the Larry O’Brien trophy in June in the previous season.
Right now though, they are the champions; they do have the league’s utmost respect, focus, and attention. The way they would focus on the Spurs and Warriors is how teams focus on them.
The NBA is home to the best players in the entire world; it’s filled with prolific scorers, elite defenders and people with ridiculous amounts of athleticism. You can’t underestimate anyone. Every night you have to give it your all or you’ll get beat.

Now obviously, this team is as good as it gets.
They’re oozing to the brim with talent, they’re sitting comfortable atop the conference, and are coming off an absolute dismantling of Detroit Tuesday night.
Yes, the Cavs are doing just fine. They have the best player in the world in LeBron, an elite point guard in Kyrie Irving and a stretch-four who may be one of the top three players at his position in Kevin Love.
There’s also a lot that goes on behind the scenes.
Just because they’re not going out every night and leaving it all on the line, doesn’t mean they’re not doing it in practice, in workouts, and in film sessions.
The team obviously wants to repeat. I just think they should use the 82-game stretch to their benefit and give maximum effort every game.
Come mid-April, we’ll see how the team looks in terms of both their record and their readiness to take everyone’s best shot.
