Kay Felder was named the NBA D-League’s “Performer of the Week”. What’s next for the rook?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are high on rookie Kay Felder and this week he played sensationally in five games for the Canton Charge; he earned NBA D-League “Performer of the Week” honors yesterday.

Felder, who had played with the Charge twice before, took full advantage of his expanded role. Often sitting at the end of bench for the Cavs, Felder has only played in 37 out of 62 possible games and is averaging 3.7 field goal attempts in 9.5 minutes per game in those contests. It’s hard to develop quickly, especially at the point guard position, with scarce playing time. For a player whose biggest strengths are his offensive capabilities, the limited shot opportunities don’t help a player develop as quickly as they could either.

Compare those numbers with Felder’s numbers for the Charge. Felder has started in all seven of the games he’s played in and is averaging 22.0 field goal attempts in 36.2 minutes per contest.

Now that’s a green light and a way to get a rookie who’s green behind the ears such much need playing time and developmental opportunity.

King James Gospel will review Felder’s week with the Canton Charge.
