Cleveland Cavaliers: Why Stephen Curry isn’t LeBron James’ rival

James’ Praises GS, Realizes KD Is New Head
LeBron knows he’s a better player than Curry, that’s why he emphatically denied there being a rivalry between them. With the addition of Kevin Durant, Steph is not even the alpha-dog of his team even more. If LeBron is rivals with anyone on Golden State, it’s KD. They will most likely be guarding each other during a possible Finals matchup and are widely considered the two best players in the league.
While LeBron James has a point about him and Stephen Curry not being rivals, he is completely wrong about the Cavaliers and Warriors not being a rivalry. Earlier this season he acknowledged Golden State as the NBA’s best team, but said it wasn’t a rivalry
If the NBA playoffs go the way we expect, Cleveland and Golden State will meet for the 3rd straight year in the NBA Finals. Now….that is a rivalry. Chris Broussard of Fox Sports even compared it to the Lakers/Celtics rivalry of the 1980’s and mentioned Michael Jordan is LeBron’s true rival:
During these past two NBA Finals series between the two teams, there has been a lot of drama. LeBron proclaimed himself to be the best player in the world despite losing in the 2015 finals. In 2016 Klay Thompson mocked LeBron for “his feelings being hurt” and Marreese Speights tweeted a baby bottle emoji that was for sure directed at James. Draymond Green was suspended for a flagrant foul against LBJ, which dramatically changed the series. That is all the ingredients of a rivalry.

At the end of the day, Stephen Curry and the Warriors are standing in the way of LeBron James and his desire of becoming the greatest basketball player ever. Cavaliers vs Warriors is the only prominent rivalry in the NBA today. But LeBron James has higher aspirations: To chase the ghost in Chicago.
