Larry Sanders is in Cleveland and his agent is meeting with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Is it time to expect a signing?

The geofilter of Larry Sanders’ Snapchat has revealed that he’s in Cleveland. It’s also been reported by basketball insider Sam Amico of Amico Hoops that Sanders’ agent, Joel Bell, has been talking with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sanders, who last played in the 2014-2015 season, was one of the premier shot-blockers in the NBA before his suspension and subsequent departure from the NBA at just 26 years old. In his best season, Sanders averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.2 assists in 27.3 minutes per game.

For comparison, Tristan Thompson is currently averaging 8.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 0.8 assists in 30.0 minutes per game.

Sanders recently held a workout in Miami that the Cleveland Cavaliers may have attended. If so, which would make sense considering the timeline of events, the Cleveland Cavaliers already know what shape Sanders is in and they’re ready to sign him to at least a 10-day contract though they could simply sign him for the remainder of the season as well.

In either case, the Cavs lack depth in the frontcourt and what the Cleveland Cavaliers need in the frontcourt specifically is a rim-protecting center. Sanders, whose agent also represents Cleveland Cavaliers guard-forward James Jones, will be in the right place for his basketball career both on and off the court.

Off the court, the Cavs have helped repaint the public images of J.R. Smith and DeAndre Liggins and could help do the same for Sanders. On the court, Sanders returns to the league with the chance to play for a championship contender in a minimized role. There’s not pressure on Sanders to do anything more than play his game.
