Cleveland Cavaliers: Pre-ASG Player Grades
2016-2017 season averages:
7.8 points, 1.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.0 steal per game
42.5 percent shooting on all field goals, 40.3 percent on three-point attempts
How Iman Shumpert has performed prior to the All-Star break:
Iman Shumpert has been a different player this season and his growth a three-point shooter has been astounding. Just last season, Shumpert was shooting 29.5 percent from three-point range. This season, Shumpert has upped that percentage to 40.3. Shumpert has also continued to be a strong defense player, still able to guard all three players along the perimeter and apply suffocating on-ball defense because of his physicality and athleticism. The most impressive part of Shumpert’s growth has been his decision-making. Rarely do Shumpert’s isolation drives end in turnovers. Instead, when he attacks off-the-dribble, it usually results in two points for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the form of a long two or a dunk at the rim.
Shumpert’s best moment thus far this season was January 13th against the Sacramento Kings. It was Shumpert’s first start of the season and he performed perfectly in his role, knocking down 4 out of 6 three-point attempts. Shumpert also had two steals.
