Could The Cleveland Cavaliers Pull Off A Trade For One Of These Players?
G Patrick Beverley
2016-2017 season averages: 9.7 points, 4.5 assists per game
What he can bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers:
Patrick Beverley is a lockdown defender, an able scorer and a fine floor general with a junkyard dog mentality. If the Cleveland Cavaliers were to trade for Patrick Beverley they’d be receiving a backup point guard that they should keep in The Land for as long as possible.
Beverley, who can play both guard positions, can play beside Kyrie Irving until J.R. Smith comes back if need be. He’s shooting 39.0 percent from three-point range this season and 41.7 percent on catch-and-shoot three-point attempts. With the second unit, Beverley will pick-and-choose his spots carefully but will be as aggressive as possible if given free rein to score. His ability to be a playmaker will be useful, as it will allow James, and Irving in particular, to rest more.
Some people would balk at the idea of trading Iman Shumpert for Patrick Beverley but it makes sense considering that Beverley is now playing out-of-position full-time for the Houston Rockets. The Rockets would also enjoy the cap relief they could have if they add a player like Corey Brewer to the deal. Brewer doesn’t get many minutes with the Rockets but “The Drunken Dribbler” is a player that excels in transition and is a lanky defender that can provide depth at small forward.
With Kevin Love out for six weeks, expect James to play a lot more power forward. With that in mind, the Cleveland Cavaliers depth on the wings is very important.
