The Cleveland Cavaliers kicked off the new year in a forgettable way. The only way to put it behind them will be to excel in February.
The Cleveland Cavaliers renown leader, LeBron James, had one of the worst months in his NBA career this January– purely from a team success standpoint. The Cavaliers went 7-8, and it was the first time the King had a losing record in a month since 2006, according to ESPN’s Stats and Info.
The poor player shouldn’t be attributed to either Kyrie Irving or LeBron James though. Irving and James were both in the top 15 in points per game, 25.5 and 25.7 respectively. James also averaged over 8 assists and rebounds per game while Irving was able to chip in an above-average 2.5 threes per game. These two combined for 47.9% of the teams scoring. James did average 5.0 turnover which was third in the NBA for January.

These numbers speak for themselves when it comes to why LeBron has complained about getting help.
This Cavaliers team dropped 8 games. While two of these losses came at the hand of the Spurs and Warriors, the Cavs also dropped some pitiful games to teams like the Mavericks and a Brow-less Pelicans. Five of the eight losses came to teams that are currently under .500. This is pitiful. The Cavaliers have just stopped showing the same effort in games of lesser value.
Really the only quality win that the Cavs had was at home against the Thunder, but this game was one game after the Thunder lost 6th Man of the Year candidate Enes Kanter. The other six wins were against less than mediocre teams.
The Cavaliers need to get it together and soon. They have a red-hot Wizards team and the Indiana Pacers away in their first couple February contests. They also get a fun game at home against a much-improved Nuggets team.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will figure their issues out, and hopefully they don’t lose the top Eastern Conference seed before they bring it together.
