“I’m The Captain Now”

Under Lue, the Cleveland Cavaliers have had the peace and order restored to their locker room. This is in large part due to Lue letting the team know that he was in charge, and not LeBron James, early in his tenure as head coach.

This season, Lue has ignored the critics and shown a resolve to stick with his own decisions. Whether that decision has to deal with his rotations or his decision to rest players, Lue is a strong and confident face that captains the Cleveland Cavaliers ship. His persona fortifies what could be a potentially volatile situation with all of the personalities and egos in the locker room.

James is the best player in the world. Kyrie Irving is the best pure scorer on the team. Kevin Love, an elite three-point shooter and rebounder, is the first power forward of his kind. Conversely, a player like J.R. Smith is easy to target as a scapegoat. There are veterans on the team that wanted more player time.

Lue has both stilled the waters and steered the ship for the Cleveland Cavaliers in a balancing act that would make Davy Jones proud.
