Player Grades: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. New York Knicks
James played one of the finest games of basketball we’ve seen thus far in the season. His stat line was a very James-like 25 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal. He made 7-of-10 attempts from the field, was 1-of-2 from behind the line and made 10-of-14 shots from the charity stripe. He held Carmelo Anthony to 8 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
On offense, James attacked the rim in halfcourt and in transition like he was trying to make a statement in his favorite arena. He hit a number of fadeaway jumpers and while still filling his role as the Cavs primary facilitator he wasn’t overly passive, looking for his shot consistently over the course of the game. Defensively, James smothered Anthony and didn’t allow him to do anything most possessions but pass. If Anthony was there, James was there to use his own length, strength and athleticism to make it hard for his best friend.
That’s the kind of play the Cleveland Cavaliers need from the best player in the world. With great power comes great responsibility.
