The Sacramento Kings’ Reality Check
Teams all around the league know about Cousins’ frustrations in Sacramento. Cousins’ loyalty is to winning. Why else would he have gone to the University of Kentucky, one of the premier basketball programs in the NCAA and a hotbed for NBA talent?
In the end, a trade could be the most reasonable move for the Kings and the front office knows that. In part, that’s why they can’t ask for too high of a price.
Space City Scoop
At the present moment, the Sacramento Kings are not a model organization or perennial championship contenders. That’s a far cry from the type of basketball environment Cousins will feel comfortable in.
Coach Dave Joerger could make a difference in Cousins’ seemingly inevitable decision to depart from Sacramento. He, like University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari, seems to be a master motivator and able to establish a good connection with his players.
However, winning matters most to Cousins and he has never won a basketball championship at any level.
Regardless of how they could keep Cousins, the Kings shouldn’t. Frankly, Sacramento needs a culture change. In rebuilding the Sacramento Kings brand they need to bring in players who show unwavering Sac-Town pride. Players who will be model citizens on the court, as well as off of it.
Trade scenarios that could entice the Sacramento Kings with those types of players, which exist for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
