All-Star Game Comparisons: NBA Vs. MLB

Celebrity Games

The NBA’s Celebrity Game only competes with the MLB’s Celebrity Softball Game in terms of athleticism. Other than that they are two quirky events that have little meaning.

The NBA uses famous actors and actresses alike amongst WNBA players and other celebrities. This event showcases the athleticism of the participants in a way that the MLB can’t compete. However, it gets odd when some players are going all-out to win and others are just there to have fun playing in the game.

Nonetheless, the showcase of talent and seeing the surprisingly impressive athleticism on display is fun.

The MLB struggles to grab the attention of fans. Fans will tune into the Celebrity Softball Game, but when their are lineups of 18 players on each team, the MLB can’t afford to cut the game short. It also is broadcasting after the home run derby, lending another disadvantage

Whether it’s due to their television contract, the softball game isn’t shown in full and is actually pre-recorded from the day before. This is an extreme disadvantage.

They do a better job of bringing back former MLB players than the NBA does, in part due to the conditioning and constant moving of the NBA. This has always been a reason for some to tune in to the MLB’s event.

In total, the NBA Celebrity Game gets the edge due to showcasing true athleticism. When I watch the Celebrity Softball Game, it’s to see former players like Ozzie Smith with the glove or watching Rollie Fingers crank home runs, but that’s it.
