Dwyane Wade Enters Talks With Cleveland Cavaliers

While Cleveland Cavaliers fans were tracking flights for Dwyane Wade coming to Cleveland, he was engaging in talks with Cavs’ personnel.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have engaged in talks to pursue LeBron James’ best friend, Dwyane Wade, in free agency, according to the Huffington Post‘s Jordan Schultz.

It’s not a little known fact that James and Wade have been friends. In fact one would have to live under a rock to not know that the two joined forces with the Miami Heat and won two championships together.

Their love is like a bromance on steroids, as ESPN‘s Pablo S. Torre explains their bond. He even details how they stay at one another’s houses when traveling to each others respective cities, now that they are on opposite teams.

Taking a look at tweets that Wade recently liked prove that even though they are separate, they are still very close.

Even Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, has weighed in on the Heat stars’ free agency, expressing frustration with Pat Riley and his staff’s lack of communication with Wade as July 1st came, the first day teams could contact and meet with free agents.

Those who decided to look even further into Union’s Twitter feed after Kevin Durant’s agreement with the Golden State Warriors found tweets encouraging the superstar leaving. Is that another sign that Wade could be leaving Miami, let alone joining forces with his best friend in Cleveland?

To say that Wade wouldn’t be interested in Cleveland is not doing your homework on the situation. There is, and always will be a mutual interest to play with James again. But he is also looking at the Milwaukee Bucks, whom he has a meeting with on Wednesday, according to the Journal Sentinel‘s Charles F. Gardner.

Wade played his college basketball in Milwaukee at Marquette University. In fact the BMO Harris Bradley Center is home to both Marquette and the Bucks, so it would be a homecoming for Wade.

Is there a fit there?

The Bucks already have a young shooting guard in Khris Middleton and with Giannis Antetokounmpo looking like a star in the making at small forward, there may not be a great fit for Wade on the court. Perhaps the Bucks would shift their players a position to make room for Wade as a starter, but then they are playing out of position.

It is known that James wants to play with all of his friends, including Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, at least once before they all hang up their sneakers, as captured by Bleacher Report‘s Howard Beck.

James and Wade are both free agents this summer, so it would make sense that they both join the New York Knicks, where Anthony is already under contract, to form a dream team of their own. However, after recent moves to acquire Derrick Rose, agree to terms with Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee, the Knicks don’t have the financial flexibility anymore.

Wade joining the Cavs makes the most sense. While they also don’t have cap flexibility, the Cavs could likely trade Kevin Love to make it happen, or Wade and James would both need to take pay cuts.

Where did all of this Wade-to-Cleveland talk stem from anyway? The owner of LYFE clothing brand, which Wade has worn in the past, tweeted out crying face emojis followed by “Miami is going to puke late last night.

Shortly after, the private jet line Luxury Jets Group wished Wade, James and Cavs’ owner Dan Gilbert a happy 4th of July.

Which leads us to this morning’s report saying that the Cavs and Wade are engaged in talks to reunite Wade with James.

Whether the Cavs’ form a super team with Wade or not, it appears that they need to make a move to rival Durant’s decision to join the Warriors. Otherwise it could be a one-team league, at least that’s how it looks on paper.

Wade joining James in Cleveland has never appeared to be more real.
