Kevin Love Trade: What Could Cavs Get Back?
New Orleans Pelicans
Another trade where the Cavs would likely require some kind of draft pick consideration as well, to deal to bring in more talent. Ryan Anderson might be the closest thing to Kevin Love-lite we have in the league but will become a free agents. Asik’s contract is big for a guy who doesn’t do much of anything offensively and the Pelicans would like to get rid of it, according to reports. Norris Cole would likely waive his restriction to come back home.
Having a 3rd team involved would be likely here so the Cavs could get another piece with whatever draft pick(s) they get from the Pelicans. Bringing back Anderson next year would be important while Asik would fill in whenever Mozgov leaves, whether in trade this year or in free agency after the season.
For New Orleans, Love gives them another star next to Anthony Davis. Their fit together isn’t great but could work in Alvin Gentry’s fast-paced, movement system. They would have to give up valuable draft pick(s), likely including this year’s first, but they would get a for sure star in exchange. Love’s shooting could free up Davis while Unibrow’s defense could help cover for Love’s deficiency. Neither is a center but they could be deadly together. The Pelicans pick could be quite valuable to the Cavs.
The Pelicans pick could be quite valuable to the Cavs to help bring in another very talented piece to the puzzle either in a multi-team deal or separately in the next year plus.
