Cavs Rumors: Carmelo To Cleveland, Love To Boston?
By Luke Sicari
In an absolute bombshell, Frank Isola is reporting the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics may be working on a blockbuster deal involving some pretty big names.
Cleveland General Manager David Griffin likes to make trades and upgrade the Cavs roster where possible but this one seems a bit out there.
Isola of the New York Daily News has all the details on a potential deal that would send Carmelo Anthony to Cleveland and Kevin Love to Boston.
"The Daily News has learned that the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a blockbuster trade centered around Kevin Love. There were very preliminary discussions about expanding the deal to include the Knicks and Anthony, who would have to waive his no-trade clause in order to facilitate a deal to the Cavs. The Knicks would receive draft picks and players in return. One of those players is believed to be Timofey Mozgov, who five years ago was traded by the Knicks to Denver in the Anthony deal. Those talks have not progressed. Plus Anthony reiterated on Friday that he has no plans to seek a trade. However, when asked if he’s thought about his future with a losing organization, Anthony gave a cryptic answer.“Not yet. I’m pretty sure I’ll have that conversation with myself and my family and my team,” he said. “But it’s not a conversation for right now.”"
Well, that escalated quickly.
It is no secret that LeBron James and Anthony are best friends. They both got drafted in 2003 and had some classic battles in high school with St Vincent St Mary’s and Oak Hill.
The Love to Boston speculation has been floating around ever since the former Minnesota Timberwolves forward visited Boston in the summer of 2014. Love was eventually traded to the Cavs in exchange for number one picks Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett.
The Knicks recently fired head coach Derek Fisher and are on the outside looking into the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Rookie Kristaps Porzingis has taken the league by storm and is projected to be an All-Star in a couple years, which could make Anthony expandable.
Although, this rumor is pretty unbelievable.
Griffin has gone on the record explaining that while the Cavs have no untouchables, he isn’t shopping or trading Love. Ever since Coach Tyronn Lue took over, Love has looked a lot more comfortable in Cleveland and in the Cavs system.

Adding Anthony wouldn’t really make a lot of sense either. The Cavs are trying to incorporate a system built on ball and player movement. Anthony, one of the NBA’s best scorers, is a player who needs the ball in his hands to be effective.
Isola also reported that Anthony is committed to the Knicks and could veto this dead that would send him to Northeast Ohio.
While it is fun to talk about and imagine these fantasy trades going down, the likelihood of this Melo/Love swap actually going down is extremely low.
