Steph Curry put the Cleveland Cavaliers in their place in the NBA Finals but his recent comments have the Cavs feeling disrespected.

Stephen Curry has been great over the last season and a half, and very good before that. He led his Golden State Warriors to an NBA Title, has a sparkling image on and off the court and is basically the lead of most shows on ESPN.

He has, however, said some things that have rubbed the Cavaliers’ players the wrong way. As he prepared to come to Cleveland for the first time since clinching the Title here last year, he thought saying this was a good idea:

"“Obviously, walking in the locker room, it’ll be good memories,” Curry said Sunday to reporters. “Hopefully, it still smells a little bit like champagne.”"

Not surprisingly that did not sit well with the Cavs. According to Chris Haynes it was viewed as disrespectful:

"Sources are telling cleveland.com that members of the Cavaliers have taken exception to the quote and viewed it as “disrespectful.”"

Not surprising. The Cavs are professionals and should quickly feel disrespected by this.

Cavs legend Austin Carr sounds like he would be a little extra physical tonight with a little extra motivation from Curry’s statement:

The Cavs have special reason to be bothered by all the talk coming out of the Warriors since their Title win. The Cavs were without 2 of their Big 3, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, and had a hobbled Iman Shumpert. The Warriors were whole and healthy.

That is no excuse for the Cavs nor any type of asterisk for the Warriors. But the Warriors have shown little respect toward the Cavs since their victory and Steph’s comments are a continuation of not showing any kind of respect to a Cavs team that is playing very well.

Interestingly enough, no one asked LeBron James about Steph Curry’s comments which he even brought up at the end of his interview:

"When LeBron James finished up his media address after shootaround this morning, he walked away asking reporters why no one asked him about Curry’s comments. He said he had an answer for it."

Knowing a lot of the reporters that are generally there at shootaround, it is a surprise that none of them brought this up to LBJ.

Expect a lot to be read into body language and performance tonight, especially from the Cavs. If Curry gets fouled hard, expect the refs to protect him, much like the NFL does with QBs.

Expect LeBron, Irving and Love to put on a show in front of their home crowd. The Cavs lost on the Warriors court 89 – 83 on Christmas Day. The Cavs want to blow that score out of the water tonight and the Big 3, with Steph Curry’s disrespectful words fueling them, are bound to lead the way.

Do you think the Cavs should feel disrespected by Steph Curry’s comments?
