Tayshaun Prince

The Cavaliers have registered interest in the veteran small forward this summer, and it’s not the first time they’ve been linked to him. We’ve already discussed why Prince might not be a good fit, but he does have some strong qualities. After a terrible 2013-2014 season, Prince did have a bit of a bounceback last year. He shot a career high (and likely unsustainable) 46.3% from deep last season, and also saw his rebounding rate improve. Prince is also a solid locker room presence who knows how to win, but his defense, formerly a calling card, has fallen off significantly.

More from King James Gospel

At thirty-five years old, it’s unlikely he plays any better than he did last year, and the Cavaliers have made their desire to add youth to their bench known. Still, it wouldn’t be a surprise to many to see Prince wearing the wine and gold next season.

Conclusions

There aren’t a lot of great options for the Cavaliers in their search for a backup for LeBron James. Of the four men listed above, only Wright is a definite rotation player on a team at the level of the Cavaliers. The other four men would be no guarantee to see any playing time outside of blowouts. While other names could pop up in free agency, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Cavaliers leave this spot to Smith and James Jones, and try to fill it later with a trade exception created by Brendan Haywood’s contract.

Any of these Small Forward options intrigue you for the Cavs?
