Here is where we have to get creative with our graphics but a 3 team deal is where the Brendan Haywood deal is most likely to be used to get the Clippers a center. His contract can be used to help facilitate a deal to get the Cavs a player and the Grizzlies an asset and the Clippers Kostas Koufos. Want to give credit where it is due, got the idea from a Woj tweet:
Koufos has seen his stock rise over the past year. The Cavs tried to acquire him if they couldn’t get Timofey Mozgov last season. A shot blocking player with some range, the former Buckeye would give the Clippers a player that helps ease the loss of Jordan at a fraction of the cost.
The Grizzlies get a 2nd round pick and a shot at Wilcox for helping to facilitate the trade. They don’t lose anything, so a win for them at this point.
The Cavs bring in the sharpshooting J.J. Redick to give some balance to their roster. He pairs with Iman Shumpert to give the Cavs an offensive shooting guard to go with a defensive one. Last year J.J. made 44% of his 3 pointers and 48% from the field overall. He had a career high 16.4 points per game and would be a huge lift for the Cavs. The Clippers will try to trade Crawford instead but the Cavs could hold the line.
The Clippers lose the shooting but with Crawford and Lance Stephenson on the team, have a few options at the 2 guard spot and have now answered their hole at center with a reasonable option. Because of Sign and Trade rules, LA might be better off dealing the more expensive J.J. anyways.
Many think Koufos could do very well when given a chance, something he wasn’t given much of in Memphis with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.
A Win-Win-Win all around.
How Likely? Possible – The Clippers need a real center and can get by without Redick. The Grizzlies are willing to help it out for a couple of assets and the Cavs provide the salary filler in Haywood to make it all work. A great shooter like Redick would fit perfectly alongside LeBron James.
