The Sixers were most interested in the 1st Round pick and the ability to swap picks with the Kings twice in the future. While Stauskas is an interesting shooting piece for their team, that they required so much assets to bring in him with the contracts doesn’t seem like they are set on him. Instead, they add another 2nd round pick and shed salary, freeing them up to be involved with other deals to take on salary and more draft picks.

For the Cavs they add a young shooter who can create a bit himself off the dribble. Stauskas and Iman Shumpert would give the Cavs a good offense/defense combination at the off-guard spot, with both young. In his rookie year, Stauskas struggled with only 4 points a game and a paltry 32% from 3 point land. The 6’6″ guard was drafted in the Lottery primarily for his shooting, 44% from deep in college. He should be able to return to his shooting prowess in a more stable environment, the Kings and Sixers won’t provide that.

It costs the Cavs the 2nd rounder and having to take on the final 2 years of Thompson’s contract, at over 6 million a year.

The Cavs front court is stacked but a team can’t have too many big guys. The 6’11” Thompson isn’t great at any one thing. Last year he average 6 point, 6.5 rebounds while shooting 47% from the field. His free throw shooting is a concern at 62%. He gives the Cavs depth in case of injuries, and with Love and Anderson Varejao having injury history it is important to have that depth. The Cavs could also trade Thompson in the future, even if it is only for a 2nd round pick.

How Likely? 40% – The Sixers will probably want to keep the young Stauskas and have to spend some salary someplace. The Cavs are likely looking for more of a veteran with a solid track record as well.
