NBA Finals: 10 Reasons for Hope Cavs Fans

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost Game 4 of the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors. The loss was significant in a lot of ways. First, it was a blowout where the Cavs had to give a ton of effort to claw back into the game only to get the doors blown off. Second, the Warriors recaptured home court advantage. Finally, the Cavs, much like many of us, just look fully exhausted.

Yet there are 10 reasons for hope Cavs fans. Our team is not out of this yet, tied up 2-2 going back to Oakland for Game 5 on Sunday. What are these reasons for hope? Let me count them for you:

  1. The Cavs have already won a game in Oakland, something they will have to do to win the NBA Title.
  2. There are 3 days off between last night’s game and Sunday’s.
  3. LeBron James.
  4. Shooters James Jones, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert have struggled and the Cavs are still tied.
  5. Timofey Mozgov and Tristan Thompson can and have dominated inside, that can carryover much more than shooting.
  6. LeBron James.
  7. Throughout the season, David Blatt, Tyroon Lue, Larry Drew, et al have done a great job of making adjustments.
  8. The Cavs forced a 67 win team to change their starting lineup.
  9. LeBron James.
  10. The Cavs have 1 more home game for the Cleveland faithful to make an impact on the NBA Finals.

Now I know I repeated LeBron James 3 times. That was on purpose, not just to get the reasons to a full 10 as there are plenty of other reasons for hope. LeBron James is just that important, that good and that able to carry the Cleveland Cavaliers. He admitted he was tired in Game 4. His shooters were tired.

Yet even with bad shooting, LeBron’s worst game of the Finals and the Warriors hitting their shots, the Cavs were within 3 points with 34 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. They were only down 6 going into the 4th. That is impressive. Cavs at their worst, Warriors at their best and the Cavs were still in it going into the 4th quarter.

We all know the blowout that ended up happening. Yet the Cavs ability to inflict their will on the Warriors in the 3rd quarter before bowing out to exhaustion in the 4th, is a great sign going in to Game 5 with an extra days rest. If the Cavs can pull off another road win, they return to Cleveland needing a huge boost from their home crowd to end the series in 6 games, something I predicted before the NBA Finals.

Even if the Cavs lose, a big crowd advantage can be just the help the Cavs need to force a Game 7. In Game 7s anything goes and the Cavs would go into that game with the Best Player on the Planet (BPoP) and 48 minutes between them and the whole off-season to rest.

The Cavs have hope in the NBA Finals, do you Cavs fans?
