Lauren Hill passed away at the age of 19 on Friday morning, and LeBron James was so moved by her legacy that he sent her a special message.
Only a handful of people truly got to know Lauren Hill, but millions were touched by her story of bravery, inspiration and reliance in the face of something as scary as knowing you’re going to die. It’s not just that she was going to die, it was that she was going to die as a teenager and could do nothing to change that.

Most of us would have crumbled under that weight.
Not Lauren Hill.
Rather than let her cancer take everything from her, she fought back and wouldn’t let it win — and in the end it truly didn’t. She left a massive impact on the lives of millions of people she will never actually meet, and one of the people was Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James.
Not only is he the best basketball player on the planet, but apparently LeBron James is a poet as well. His message to Lauren Hill truly hits a soft spot in us all and reminds us that sports and who you root for aren’t as important as other things in life are.

Sincerely,
LeBron James
That’s not just some simple #RIP tweet that most people are sending. This was a a heart-to-heart that LeBron James had with a person whom he didn’t know well but still
It takes a special person to touch us all the way that Lauren Hill did and her bravery in the face of what she was up against isn’t going to be forgotten. She was an inspiration to millions, and she touched the lives of everyone from those with a loved one struggling with cancer, those who are watching someone deal with the pain of cancer all the way to people like LeBron James.
This isn’t just a simple note to a girl with cancer, this was a message to Lauren Hill, her family and everyone that she touched that her legacy and impact will live on long after she is gone.
