Cavaliers Rumors: Larry Sanders, Brendan Haywood Updates
Cleveland Cavaliers rumors will likely run rampant between now and the NBA Trade Deadline. We have updates this afternoon on both Brendan Haywood and Larry Sanders. Sam Amico provided the initial info:
Haywood
That is great information. The Cavs have very little assets that could be traded and a Cavaliers rumor regarding trading Haywood’s contract would be great. Amico is not being on using strong words so the fact that he said “plenty of interest” means that the Cavs likely have a few trades available to them with Haywood. His deal can only bring back around $3 million in contracts unless other contracts are added.
Teams that are likely to be interested in the contract will have plans to use it in the upcoming off-season to bring in talented players. There are quite a few teams that could find that contract interesting. The Cavs could still choose to hold on to Haywood so that they could trade him in the off-season but that is unlikely given the Cavs luxury tax issues.
Sanders
Sanders is such an interesting prospect. He earned a 4 year contract worth $44 million based on his athletic ability that makes him a great defender and an offensive threat above the rim. Sanders issues have been primarily off the court and Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders tweeted about it today as well:
Kennedy doesn’t elaborate anymore on the “tough time” that Sanders is going through. He could be dealing with family issues, medical issues or mental health issues. None of which should be minimized but if he wants to play the Cavs could provide him a great place to return to the game.

The Cavs have a team full of players who enjoy playing together, where he wouldn’t be asked to do a ton and where he could learn how to win and develop as a player. Sanders would be used as a 4th big man and an athletic player that can provide exactly what the Cavs need off the bench.
The Cavs would not be able to acquire the type of talent that Sanders has with the resources at hand. They could sign Sanders in their open roster spot and still trade Haywood to fill more holes. If Sanders is signed then the Cavs could look for backcourt help at the NBA Trade Deadline.
The Cavaliers rumors are likely to come fast and furious over the next couple of days, it will be interesting to see in what direction that go.
