7. Dallas Mavericks (LW: 9)

The signing of Monta Ellis was met by some Mavericks fans with a sigh, others grumbled about striking out on free agents yet again.

Ellis however has proven to be more than just an inefficient binge shooter, discovering his passing touch. Dallas are 11-1 in games where Ellis has five or more assists. That he’s had five assists in 12 games already this season is just as amazing as the record itself. Not to mention Saturday’s game-winner in Portland.

8. Los Angeles Clippers (LW: 7)

Losers of three of their last four, the Clippers are reeling from the loss of J.J. Redick. The injury also came at the beginning of a seven game road trip, meaning time to stop and breathe is at a premium. Fortunately, they play three Atlantic Division teams this week, so that should help them return to winning ways.
