NBA Free Agency 2013: Top 10 Biggest Surprises So Far

3. Paul Millsap
From: Utah Jazz
To: Atlanta Hawks
Contract: 2 years/$19 million
Rationale: The Jazz let both of their starting bigs walk and got nothing in exchange, an uncommon practice to say the least. Millsap will fill the void left by Josh Smith at a stupefyingly cheaper rate–as Zach Lowe bemoans, former frontcourt mate Al Jefferson will earn twice as much as Millsap over the lives of their respective contracts. Hint: Al Jefferson is not twice as good as Paul Millsap, who is a year younger to boot. Millsap is not nearly as dynamic defensively as Smith, which limited his minutes in Utah, but he is a significantly more reliable shooter. Atlanta will, improbably, become a blander team, albeit one whose season should last at least 86 games for the seventh straight season.
