#14. Dallas Mavericks

2012-2013: 41-41

Head Coach: Rick Carlisle

Signed: Josh Akognon, Rodrigue Beaubois, Jose Calderon, Vince Carter, Jae Crowder, Wayne Ellington, Bernard James, Mike James, Shawn Marion, Anthony Morrow, Dirk Nowitzki, Brandan Wright

Rationale: More games from Dirk Nowitzki and a real point guard in Jose Calderon should energize a team that was in the playoff picture until the very end of last season. Of course, adding the flammable Monta Ellis to the mix could negate any offensive improvement. Calderon-Ellis is a lock for the worst defensive backcourt in the league. There are enough veterans and schemes to squeak into the playoffs, although the downside of an older roster is vulnerability to injuries.
