Denver Nuggets also wanted Rivers, offered first-round pick

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, around 10 days ago Denver offered the Celtics a first-round pick for the release of Doc Rivers, assuming that he would sign with the Nuggets, an offer that Celtics GM Danny Ainge declined.

Now that Rivers has put himself in a little bit of a predicament in terms of trying to leave, could the Celtics reconsider the offer? Nuggets have already moved on to other candidates, most notably Lionel Hollins and Brian Shaw, but if Boston decided to not bring back Doc, and Rivers was interested in coaching the Nuggets, a deal could potentially be made. It’s a long shot though, and at this point the far more likely outcome is that Rivers will either stay with Boston or perhaps continue his broadcasting career.
