I have to give it to Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr; he’s got some Kerr-isma.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are down 3-1 again to the Warriors. As of now, it looks like they’re completely over-matched compared to last season. They are one of the best teams this league has seen in a long time, and the Cavs are the clear underdogs. Steve Kerr knows he has a historically great squad, too. He wasn’t afraid to show that yesterday.

In Sunday’s press conference, he sported a “Supervillains” tee. He obviously did it to address what is the elephant in the room, most people hating the Warriors. I admit, he did own it, though. That said, this just adds even more fuel to the fire between two teams that aren’t exactly fond of each other to begin with.

The Cavs, led by LeBron James, have done their part in participating in the “Petty Olympics” since the 2016 Finals. However, I’m not totally getting why Golden State is still doing this kind of thing. They have proven to have pretty much all the advantages in terms of scheme, pace of play, and overall execution so far. They always just seem to have to take everything a step further, for whatever reason. I mean even the coach? Really?
For the record, I respect the heck out of Kerr. I liked him as an analyst before he started manning the sidelines in the Bay, and he had a successful career as a shooting specialist before that in the Association. He was also the Phoenix Suns General Manager for three seasons. His basketball credibility should never be questioned, and he’s taken this Warriors roster to new heights. Nonetheless, I do question his and his team’s boldness in pressers on occasion.
Why would you keep giving LeBron James and company any more motivation? I understand it probably doesn’t factor into the outcome, but I still don’t really get these kinds of moves. The Warriors “poke the bear” any chance they get, and it generally works against them in the end result. Bron has been on a mission ever since Klay Thompson said “he had his feelings hurt” and now Kerr hypes up the Warriors hate in that way?
Like I said, the Warriors have all the reason for confidence, and they are at home tonight. The Cavs have had the odds stacked against them before, though, as they roared back to spoil Golden State’s party in 2016. If the Cavs win this one tonight, that shirt could prove to be a bigger deal than you think, especially with Draymond Green’s completely unnecessary anti-Cleveland rant the other day.
This Dubs team loves to rub salt in the wound. Anyhow, at least they’re consistent about it. I just didn’t see that sort of thing coming from Kerr, and Tyronn Lue and the Cavs have even more bulletin board material going against “Supervillains.”
Lue on Game 5: "Well, we gotta come back home, so we might as well come back with a win. That’s our mentality."

Hopefully Tyronn Lue is right, and the Cavs fly back to the Land after Game 5 with a W. They have to come home anyway. Kyrie Irving wants to spray some champagne in Oakland again, and the thought of Draymond doing that in Cleveland for the second time? Yikes.
I know it’s unlikely the Cavs pull off history in consecutive years, but if they do, maybe that supervillains shirt is more of a bargain. Maybe you’ll see more of “The Shot” tees in the Bay as well.
