NBA Previews: April 9th, 2014

842062011Detroit Pistons at Cleveland Cavaliers
Tip: 7pm ET, Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland OH

Both teams are out of playoff contention and the Pistons are a hideous team at this moment in time. Detroit is playing for ping-pong balls while Cleveland is playing to try and keep Kyrie Irving happy.

Brooklyn Nets at Orlando Magic
Tip: 7pm ET, Amway Center, Orlando FL

Brooklyn is playing it’s second game in Florida in two nights after coming up with a win to complete the season sweep of the Miami Heat in last night’s marquee match-up. Expect the Magic to compete hard but ultimately lay down as they also chase better lottery odds.

Philadelphia 76ers at Toronto Raptors
Tip: 7pm ET, Air Canada Center, Toronto ON

Toronto needs a win tonight to maintain third place with the Chicago Bulls, currently tied for the third seed playing in Minnesota tonight. The Sixers recently ended their 26-game losing streak and can now comfortably lose out without creating any more history.

Charlotte Bobcats at Washington Wizards
Tip: 7pm ET, Verizon Center, Washington DC

The Bobcats are kind of floating on their own in the sixth seed and will be keeping an eye on who lands the third seed. Washington needs a win to keep the pressure on Brooklyn in fourth, though the pair are essentially locked into their match-up.

Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks
Tip: 7:30pm ET, Phillips Arena, Atlanta GA

The Hawks laid an egg against Detroit at home last time out, leaving them clawing for a win to keep the gap between themselves and New York at 1.5 games with time running out for the Knicks to catch up.

Miami Heat at Memphis Grizzlies
Tip: 8pm ET, FedExForum, Memphis TN

Miami found themselves on the short end of an enthralling contest with Brooklyn and, with slumping Indiana surely able to pick themselves up against Milwaukee, will want to find a way to avoid the Nets/Bulls in the second round.

Indiana Pacers at Milwaukee Bucks
Tip: 8pm ET, BMO Harris Bradley Center, Milwaukee WI

The Bucks have the worst record in the league. Indiana has dropped six of it’s last eight, blown out by the Hawks at home in their last game. They’ve also confirmed they’ve rested all five of their starters tonight. This could be awful.

Chicago Bulls at Minnesota Timberwolves
Tip: 8pm ET, Target Center, Minneapolis MN

The Bulls can overhaul Toronto for the third seed, though having seen the Pacers struggles they might want to strategically find themselves in their bracket.

Phoenix Suns at New Orleans Pelicans
Tip: 8pm ET, Smoothie King Center, New Orleans LA

The Suns are in desperate need of wins to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Pelicans are half-heartedly seeing out the season with an eye to getting as good a draft pick as possible. This only goes one way, right?

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets
Tip: 9pm, Pepsi Center, Denver CO

The Rockets have been fantastic in this stretch without Dwight Howard, continuing their strong play since the calendar turned into 2014. Likewise, Denver have shown improvement since 2014 began too, as coach Brian Shaw has finally seen his players respond to his style of play.

Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers
Tip: 10pm ET, Rose Garden, Portland OR

Portland have been fairly consistent if unspectacular as they close in on their first post-season appearance in several seasons.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Clippers
Tip: 10:30pm ET, Staples Center, Los Angeles CA

The Thunder take on the Clippers in tonight’s game of the night. The teams are tied in the win column with both trying to avoid the Golden State Warriors in the three/six bracket in the first round. This is the classic meeting of two heavyweights and a potential playoff preview.
