Boston Celtics looking to land Josh Smith

The Boston Celtics hope to move Paul Pierce by the draft, however, they are hopeful that they can find a potential team that would want to absorb Pierce’s salary:

"As for the rebuilding sure to follow the dismantling, that is contingent on what happens with Pierce. If the Celtics can unload Pierce to a team with enough cap space to absorb his salary, they will get a trade exception worth Pierce’s salary, or $15.3 million. And if that happens, the plan is already in place. According to a source, the Celtics have a sign-and-trade offer ready for Atlanta forward Josh Smith that would be the top priority in free agency. Bill Simmons actually discussed a similar scenario last week — the Celtics looking to sign-and-trade for Smith. Josh is an unrestricted free agent and a good friend with Rajon Rondo, so him landing in Boston would likely be a good fit. However, the Celtics first need to get a trade exception, and they want to send Pierce only where he would be comfortable playing and potentially ending his career.
