Honorable mention: The 2011 Playoffs in general. I know that I’m supposed to choose a team here and this is kind of cheating, but the 2011 playoffs had everything a basketball fan could hope for:

  • a sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers, during which they showed their true colors
  • the upstart Memphis Grizzlies upsetting the aging San Antonio Spurs in the first round and then dragging a more dynamic and talented Oklahoma City Thunder through a gritty but exciting 7 game series
  • a completely unexpected upset in the Finals series as the Dallas Mavericks beat the Miami Heat

The first round also gave us something very bittersweet, as Brandon Roy spent two games reminding us what could have been before succumbing to his knee injuries once again.
