Do the Cavs have the best center rotation in the NBA? Robin Lopez

We come to the final Cavs center on this list, the solid veteran Robin Lopez. Not to be confused with his twin brother Brook (hard to do since Brook has adopted a close-cropped haircut and Robin looks like Sideshow Bob) Robin is an interior center who plays offense and defense close to the rim.

The best weapon in his arsenal is his hook shot, which he can get off against nearly any defender due to his size at seven-feet tall. He has bounced around the league for most of his 14-year career, playing most recently in Orlando last season, presumably to be close to Walt Disney World, of which he and Brook share a special love.

Lopez isn’t a bastion of skill, he isn’t a shooter, and he isn’t going to be switching onto waterbug point guards and locking them down on the perimeter. What he will be doing is standing in the paint and deterring opponents from shooting at the rim; his size and knowledge of positioning make him a solid paint protector, even if he isn’t going to show off volleyball-spike blocks.

The other place where Lopez shines is as a passer out of the short roll or from the high post. This is a skill he can pass on to Mobley and Allen. One of the ways that two-big combinations thrive is by having crisp interior passing, and if Mobley and Allen develop in that area their offensive combination will become that much more dangerous.

Lopez is not a starting center anymore, but he’s a solid backup, and very overqualified to be a third or fourth center. No other team in the league can probably boast a deep backup as dependable as Lopez, and adding him at the minimum this summer was a steal.
