Cavs 2022 NBA Draft Notebook: Bryce McGowens Scouting Report
Again, where do you draft him?
McGowens is kind of in the same situation as E.J. Liddell, in regards to the Cavaliers. I would say that drafting him at 14 is pretty much out of the question, considering a better wing prospect like Jalen Williams will likely be available.
But, while Jalen Williams has shot up draft boards, McGowens’ offensive game leaves a lot of reason to believe he’s going to be a great scorer at the next level. Still, the Cavs would likely select Malaki Branham, Williams, or even Tari Eason at 14th before him.
He’s kind of in the gray area where the Cavs could trade back, acquire a future asset, and take him at the end of the first round potentially, or pray McGowens falls to you at #39.
He’s certainly a fit in with this Cavalier roster, as he is in most NBA offensive systems. He’s got a great first step, and with work, his shot should be more than okay. On the defensive end, he has the potential to be a great perimeter defender, who excels on the fastbreak. Wherever McGowens ends up after the 2022 NBA Draft, he will have a chance to make a great impact, pretty much right away.
I’ve been high on a lot of prospects that I’ve somewhat evaluated thus far. McGowens is definitely in the conversation of guys who could really help the Cavs. However, the question becomes which other prospects do the Cavs covet more? Like I mentioned in the opening paragraph, we’re still 16 days away from the draft, so everything is up in the air.
At this point, I just want the draft to take place, so we can find out which prospect/prospects we can look forward to watching this upcoming season.
