Cleveland Cavaliers: Five takeaways from their 2019-20 media day
By Dan Gilinsky
Players are pumped for a healthy Love
It’s no secret what Love means to this team, and it’s clear that the Cavs and especially Beilein want to preserve his health next season and in the coming years, as Beilein discussed at media day on Monday.
Love is the Cavaliers’ best player thanks to his ability to score consistently on the low block, in the mid-post, provide secondary playmaking, space the floor and of course rebound at both ends at an exceptional level.
In four-plus seasons with Cleveland, Love has averaged 17.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game (per Basketball Reference), and it was obvious that players are really pumped to have a healthier Love, who makes those around him better with his presence alone on the floor.
Osman fully understands that Love has such a multifaceted skill set, and as a result, Cedi noted how Love being back helps the young guys especially so much, per Swartz.
Sexton, who made noticeable strides as an off-ball player last season, is one of those pieces Osman was likely referring to.
Sexton was a 40.2% three-point shooter last year, and with Love hopefully on the floor more with him next season, perhaps he could come close to matching near that or even exceeding that clip.
In addition, Sexton also touched on Love’s impact, per Davies.
Moreover, everybody in the Cavs organization seems to recognize just how much a healthier Love means for the team from a rotation standpoint.
Additionally, his presence on the floor to help the progression of young pieces and the leadership he provides is clearly invaluable.
The team obviously knows that as much as anybody, too.
